Our Story

The founders of the organization, Jenny Yue and Ishanvi Dasari, are both Asian Americans trying to bridge gaps between cultures. Growing up in immigrant communities, they saw first hand how Asian American voices can be overlooked, simplified, or misunderstood.

After conducting a research project for school, Jenny and Ishanvi found stories that resonated, yet never heard, though the subject discussed seemed so close. The deeper they dived into it, the more they found.

Inspired by that, Jenny and Ishanvi want to create a platform that uses storytelling as advocacy to document real experience, raise awareness, and connect the community with people that have the power to make a change.

Mission Statement

The Asian American Story Project is dedicated to uplifting AANHPI voices and bringing buried stories to light. Through documentaries and video essays, we hope to build understanding, support, and community to Asian Americans across the nation.
